Breath Of The Wild 2 Actor Drops Major Plot Reveal

"The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild" is widely regarded as the best open world video game of all time, with some even going so far as to count it among the best games ever made. Link's journey through a Hyrule ravaged by the Great Calamity has drawn praise from fans and critics alike since it was released in 2017, and gamers eagerly await the sequel, which still has not revealed its official title. In fact, not much is known about the follow-up to "Breath of the Wild," aside from what Nintendo has shown off in a few all-too-brief trailers. Even so, fans have their theories about what the sequel may have in store — and it seems as though a voice actor attached to one of the game's dubs has just confirmed a few of those theories.

YouTube channel LegaHyrule may have just gotten the scoop of a lifetime — or any alternate timeline — when they interviewed Italian voiceover artist Pietro Ubaldi during a recent convention. Ubaldi is an incredibly prolific voice actor, providing the Italian dub voices for such prominent cartoon characters as Patrick Star in "SpongeBob SquarePants," Green Lantern in "Justice League Unlimited," and Scooby-Doo in a number of projects. In the world of video games, he can be heard as Professor Pyg in "Batman: Arkham Knight" and Daruk in "Breath of the Wild." This last role, of course, is the one that drew LegaHyrule to interview the actor, and it was here that Ubaldi may have let some major plot points slip concerning the highly anticipated sequel.

Beware of spoilers ahead for "The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild."

Daruk's voice actor is playing two characters

Pietro Ubaldi seemed very eager to discuss his role in the "Breath of the Wild" sequel, revealing that he actually plays two related characters in the new game. The first thing that Ubaldi revealed is that he will be reprising his role as Daruk, which likely comes as a bit of a surprise for anyone who has completed "Breath of the Wild" or is familiar with its story. See, Daruk spent a great deal of his screen time in the first game as a spirit, serving primarily as Link's otherworldly guide. At the close of the game, he was finally able to cross to the other side and be at rest. Daruk's presence in the sequel suggests that either he has unfinished business in the earthly realm — or that his scenes in the game take place in the past.

Secondly, Ubaldi explained that he also voices Daruk's ancestor in the sequel. Though he could not remember the character's name off-hand, Ubaldi explained that this character is much more no-nonsense than the Daruk fans know and love. He confirmed that all recording for the project had been completed, which should be exciting news for fans who are still bummed by Nintendo's recent announcement concerning a delay to the game's release.

But even more exciting than the news of the dub's completion is the fact that this new reveal may have significantly widened the scope of "Breath of the Wild 2."

What does Daruk's ancestor mean for Breath of the Wild 2?

Ever since the first trailer for "Breath of the Wild 2" dropped, fans have been picking the game's footage apart for any small details hinting at its plot and gameplay. Almost immediately, fans picked up on the idea that the sequel will be using time manipulation as a major mechanic. These latest comments from Pietro Ubaldi have the "Zelda" fan community in a tizzy, with everyone trying to figure out how Daruk and his ancestors could fit into the bigger picture.

Some fans believe that Ubaldi's comments would seem to indicate that players will be able to actually go back in time and interact with characters from Hyrule's past. Others think that the new game could involve a time loop of some kind. Still others are expecting more of a parallel story involving multiple links from throughout the confusing "Zelda" timeline. Whatever the case, fans have taken this interview with Ubaldi as the ultimate confirmation that time shenanigans of some kind are a main focus of the sequel. Of course, time travel is nothing new in the "Zelda" series, but marrying the concept with the expansive open world seen in "Breath of the Wild" could make this easily the largest game in the series.

As with all things "Breath of the Wild 2," fans won't know anything for sure until Nintendo confirms it — or another voice actor decides to drop some unexpected knowledge on them.
