How Long Does It Take To Beat Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder's Revenge?

"Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder's Revenge" is a side-scrolling beat-'em-up inspired by the beloved 1987 animated series. However, instead of being a modern take on the genre, "Shredder's Revenge" sticks to its roots, with a pixelized art style that wouldn't look out of place on a SNES. According to reviews, the game is fun, too, playing like a love letter to the classic early 90s beat-'em-ups that gobbled up countless quarters in arcades everywhere. Specifically, some have called "Shredder's Revenge" a spiritual successor to 1991's "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Turtles in Time."

Although the series' graphics and gameplay didn't see many upgrades with this title, some small changes were needed to transition this arcade series to the home console. One of the biggest changes was adding a less punishing way to play "Shredder's Revenge" that doesn't force players to restart the game every time they die. So, unsurprisingly many are wondering how long "Shredder's Revenge" is compared to the classic entries.

It takes around 2 hours to beat Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder's Revenge

Because "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder's Revenge" doesn't feature any branching paths or multiple endings, the game's completion time is more or less set in stone. Well, that is, for the campaign mode. "Shredder's Revenge" has two game modes. Firstly, there is an arcade mode where players have limited lives and no checkpoints, almost identical to the arcade titles, minus the quarters. There's also a campaign mode that gives players unlimited lives and checkpoints while also including additional hidden collectibles and challenges.

IGN's Mitchell Saltzman's playthrough came in at around two hours. But, Saltzman noted that upon finishing the game, he quickly switched to arcade mode to experience the game with limited lives. It's worth noting that any player that takes on arcade mode will likely not finish the game in two hours. Mainly because without checkpoints, if players aren't careful, they could spend hours upon hours trekking through stages they previously breezed through.

Lastly, PushSquare's Robert Ramsey also finished the game in roughly two hours. Ramsey added that although the game is only two hours long, "the game's length is perfect." Additionally, Ramsey explained that the game is built with replayability in mind, and said he could see himself playing through the game more than once. "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder's Revenge" can provide hours of enjoyable content for gamers looking for a healthy dose of nostalgia, but for players that like to play a game once and toss it aside, it may not be worth the $25.
