With games like "Salt and Sacrifice" and even the long-awaited "Cuphead: The Delicious Last Course" DLC, platformer enthusiasts may not be yearning for new, great titles. However, another great platformer was announced for 2022, and it's perfect for those who enjoy Soulsborne games with 2D platforming greatness. The game in question is "The Tarnishing of Juxtia" by Actual Nerds.
All different kinds of gamers took on the challenges in "Elden Ring," the title that really brought attention to Soulsborne games. This had people creating their own way to enjoy the game — and some people even found cute, creativeways to play the game. "The Tarnishing of Juxtia" is going to be another dark fantasy Soulsborne game that players will be able to enjoy, except this time, it'll be a platformer.
Publisher Mastiff has released quite a bit of information for anyone interested in the game. Here's what we know so far about "The Tarnishing of Juxtia."
When's the release date for The Tarnishing of Juxtia?
While there's not an official release for "The Tarnishing of Juxtia," there is a release window: Summer 2022. The game will be released for PC via Steam, and there are no plans for it to come to any other console upon release. However, that doesn't mean that it won't come to consoles in the future. The game's publisher, Mastiff, has games across consoles and PC.
The game was first announced back in October 2020, but more attention was drawn to it after it was previewed again at the 2022 Future Games Show. Developers have kept eager fans satisfied with tons of updates via Twitter, Discord, and even Reddit. Across these social media channels, things like major bosses have been shown off and topics like dodging have been talked about.
Clips of gameplay haven't been the only thing shared on social media – there have also been multiple trailers released for the game.
Is there a trailer for The Tarnishing of Juxtia?
There have been several trailers released for "The Tarnishing of Juxtia," starting with the reveal trailer back in 2020. The description of the game at the time explained that the game is set after two kingdoms have fallen to ruin. The player is the last thing created by the goddess Juxtia, and the goal is to go through the world and "unlock your true potential" as you deal with the leftovers of the ruined kingdoms.
An updated gameplay trailer was released in May 2022, and it showed off more of the dark visuals in the game, including some of the same bosses that the first trailer touched on. There's also a scene that seems to show how the main character is created in a burst of red light.
For those that love a good soundtrack, there are several OST videos that show off some of the incredible music of the game.
What's the gameplay like in The Tarnishing of Juxtia?
Considering "The Tarnishing of Juxtia" is a Souls-like game, there's plenty of grueling combat in the game. The trailers show off quite a bit of this, along with some of the epic music the game has.
Combat is more complex than simply attacking an enemy and running – parrying and dodging your enemies at the perfect time is crucial whether you're using a melee weapon or even the ranged magic system that the game has. And of course, no enemy fights fair, so you'll have to deal with hordes of them at some parts of the game. There are also incredibly large, epic boss fights, including The Drowned Brother, which features a water beast that you have to attack from a platform that's also in the water.
If you're looking for another dark fantasy game with intense gameplay, then "The Tarnishing of Juxtia" is right up your alley.
