Experience

To give you an idea of how long Matt has been writing about art and culture, publications used to hand him physical CDs and DVDs for review. Since then, in addition to founding the art and culture website Averagemusicblog, he's freelanced for Vice, El Pais, Alternative Press, SF Weekly, the Nob Hill Gazette, and Matador Network. He was the 2017 reporting intern at the Bay Area weekly newspaper the East Bay Express, and the wordsmith behind Patreon's blog from 2019 to 2020. When writing deadlines become too much to bear, he finds comfort in games like Fallout 4, the Forest, Dying Light, and the Division 2.

Education

Matt has a B.A. in journalism from San Francisco State University and a copyediting certificate from UC San Diego Extension.
