Will The Resident Evil 4 Remake Be On PS4?

Gamers everywhere were thrilled to hear that Capcom is working on a next-gen remake of the award-winning 2005 "Resident Evil 4." Critics and gamers frequently argue that "Resident Evil 4" is the best game in the series and sometimes even the greatest game of all time.

Although "Resident Evil 4" has received the HD treatment once before and a VR port, this will be the first true "Resident Evil 4" remake. But according to gamers, certain things will need to be done right for it to be successful. The "Resident Evil 4" remake will require more than graphical upgrades to be considered a true next-gen title. Most notably, fans of the series desperately want some upgrades to the frustratingly difficult Ashley escort mission.

Still, due to the recent success of "Resident Evil 2" and "Resident Evil 3," many are confident that Capcom will listen to feedback and create an exceptional next-gen "Resident Evil 4" experience. But one question remains. Is "Resident Evil 4" coming to last-gen consoles such as the PlayStation 4 in conjunction with its PS5 release? And if so, what will this mean for the game's quality?

Resident Evil 4 remake is coming to PlayStation 4

During the 2022 Tokyo Game Show, "Resident Evil 4" Producer Yoshiaki Hirabayashi confirmed that the "Resident Evil 4" remake would release on PS4 alongside its next-gen versions. There was no confirmation of an Xbox One or Switch version, though. However, Hirabayashi mentioned that the team is "looking into releasing on previous generation hardware as well," so an Xbox One and Switch version don't seem off the table.

Reception on a PlayStation 4 version of the "Resident Evil 4" remake was mixed. Some were happy to hear that PS4 gamers would also be able to experience the remake. Others, however, were very disappointed with the news, writing that it's unfair that Capcom is "downgrading the overall experience for everyone just so it can run on outdated, under performing, dead hardware." However, players will need to wait until more information on the remake is released during next month's "Resident Evil" Showcase to decide if the game makes any sacrifices to get onto last-gen hardware.

In the meantime, while gamers wait for the "Resident Evil 4" remake, they can dive into the upcoming "Resident Evil Village" DLC that was announced alongside the "Resident Evil 4" remake announcement. The new DLC will include a third-person mode, a new story, and the ability to play as Lady Dimitrescu. Because "Resident Evil Village" has a mysterious connection to "Resident Evil 4," it may be in gamers' best interest to play it before the remake arrives if they haven't already.
