The First Mod For Pokémon Scarlet And Violet Isn't What You Expect
One modder had their creation ready the moment GameBanana opened its doors to mods for "Pokémon Scarlet and Violet." At that moment, they reminded the gaming community how modders could add anything from ambitious recreations to petty tweaks to any game. The first "Pokémon Scarlet and Violet" mod removes Ed Sheeran's "Celestial" song from the ending credits. More specifically, it replaces the ending song with one from "Digimon" opening singer Koji Wada.
"Celestial" is the name of Sheeran's song associated with "Pokémon Scarlet and Violet." It's featured in one of Nintendo's official trailers, and the music video of the song on Sheeran's channel includes Pokémon drawings alongside the real-life footage of the performer. Some argued that the song clashes with the more "traditional" Pokémon tracks and doesn't suit a game that doesn't even have any voice acting. Interestingly enough, fans welcomed "Undertale" dev Tobyfox with open arms. But Ed Sheeran? Nah.
Why hate on Ed Sheeran?
The mod, also known as "Remove Sheeran," was uploaded to the modding site GameBanana on the same date as "Scarlet and Violet's" release. Within the first week, the mod received over 200 downloads and nearly 40 likes. For anyone who doesn't have the patience to download a mod but wants to ax the ginger singer from the game, commenters recommend simply turning down the volume. Many onlookers viewed the mod as a funny yet petty slight against the red-haired British musician while others cautioned against mixing "Pokémon" with "Digimon."
Ed Sheeran is one of the more divisive musicians in terms of fans and haters on the internet. There doesn't seem to be a single reason why the modder felt the need to remove his song from the game. Some simply don't enjoy his brand of pop and think he's overrated. One journalist even listened to all of Ed Sheeran's discography to figure out why he's so loved (and hated) and concluded that Sheeran is simply "okay." While some will like "Celestial," others will think they're mad for doing so.
