Pokémon Scarlet And Violet: How To Get Ability Patch

There are hundreds of Pokémon for players to find and capture in "Pokémon Scarlet" and "Violet," but just like in all the games since Gen 1, trainers are only allowed to have six on their team at a time. This makes it extremely important for players to make the most of each of their combat slots. They can do this by carefully selecting six of the strongest Pokémon that they can find and being sure that they have a diverse range of elemental types so that they can exploit a wide array of type weaknesses. It doesn't end there though. Finding the right kinds of Pokémon is a good start, but those who really want to be the very best like no one ever was will have to dig a little deeper.

See, there are variations in power levels even among groups of the same Pokémon. One Charcedet might have much better stats than another, so it's beneficial to the player to catch a few of them and take the one with the higher stats before going through the effort of evolving it into Ceruledge or Armarouge. Some Pokémon even have hidden abilities that can only be unlocked if the trainer finds a special item called an Ability Patch. This is a vital item if trainers want to give their Pokémon access to these secret abilities. Here's how to get it.

Ability Patches are rewards for 6-Star Tera Raid Battles

Using an Ability Patch on a Pokémon allows them to replace their regular ability with their hidden one. It's a mechanic that was first introduced in "Sword" and "Shield" and that has now been carried on into "Scarlet" and "Violet." Unfortunately, players can't just buy an Ability Patch at the nearest Poké Mart. It actually takes a fair bit of work to get your hands on one.

Trainers can only get an Ability Patch by participating in 6-Star Tera Raid Battles. These are the highest-ranked Tera Raid Battles, and some of the most difficult Pokémon encounters in the game. But like it or not, they're the only ones with the potential to drop Ability Patches as rewards (per Samurai Gamers).

6-Star raids only unlock after the player has beaten the entire game and the Academy Ace Tournament. Even then, players will only be able to farm one 6-Star Raid per day, and there's no guarantee that an Ability Patch will drop. That means it will definitely take some time for players to get their hands on one. Still, going through a little extra effort to make your strongest Pokémon just a little bit tougher is the essence of what being a Pokémon Master is all about.
