Here Are Your PlayStation Plus Games For January 2019

The Christmas holiday is now in the rear view mirror, and Sony is already back at work. The company announced its PlayStation Plus lineup for January 2019 today, giving PlayStation gamers six new titles to look forward to when the new year arrives.

The first game that jumps out at us is Ubisoft's Steep, which we can only describe as a celebration of winter sports in a vast open world. Steep is a bunch of games in one. Do you like skiing? You can do it. How about snowboarding? That's here, too. Want to jump off the side of a mountain with nothing but a wing suit and gravity on your side? Steep makes it possible. It's been a while since we've gotten a new SSX game. We highly doubt that the Coolboarders franchise is coming back anytime soon. And you can pretty much forget about 1080 Snowboarding making a resurgence. If you're dying for a game in that space, Steep is all you've got right now. Fortunately, it gets the job done.

The next game up in PlayStation Plus is Portal Knights, which is a game that might need some explaining. This is not a puzzle platformer like Portal, nor is it a retro platformer in the vein of Shovel Knight. The PlayStation Store describes Portal Knights as a "cooperative, 3D sandbox action RPG" with procedurally generated worlds and a villain called the Hollow King. And before you ask, no — the Hollow King does not mean this game is in any way, shape or form related to Hollow Knight.

Maybe it's time we stop using the words portal, hollow, and knight in video game titles.

The rest of the PS Plus titles you'll get in January are a collection of PS3 and Vita games, which, by the way, will no longer be present when March 2019 rolls around. PlayStation 3 owners will be able to pick up Zone of the Enders HD Collection and Amplitude. And PlayStation Vita owners can look forward to downloading Fallen Legion: Flames of Rebellion and Super Mutant Alien Assault.

This next collection of PlayStation Plus games will be ready to go on Jan. 1, 2019. So you have until then to download this past month's titles if you haven't already.
