While longtime fans might immediately recognize the game's setting from the moment that the first establishing shots appear in the trailer, newcomers might not know exactly what is being depicted. If you're still not sure where "Grand Theft Auto 6" is meant to take place, we've got you covered. As it turns out, "GTA 6" marks a triumphant return to a beloved locale from the series' history.

Grand Theft Auto 6 will return to Vice City

The setting of the new "Grand Theft Auto" game will be Vice City, the titular location of 2002's "Grand Theft Auto: Vice City." Fans of the series will know that Vice City is based on Miami, Florida, and Rockstar enjoys taking full advantage of the real-world city's culture to bring it fictional counterpart to life.

Vice City models its main drag directly after one of Miami's iconic beach front avenues. In a few shots from the trailer, we can see the beachfront is lined with hotels, restaurants, high-end stores, and of course, nightclubs. Many elements of Vice City itself will be familiar to residents of the real Miami and returning players. For instance, the Pole Position club from the original "Vice City" looks to be returning, as does the Malibu Club. In the background of one shot, players can even see the Ocean View Hotel, previously owned by Tommy Vercetti in "GTA: Vice City."

With its contemporary setting, Vice City will no doubt have an uncountable number of upgrades from the original, and even returning parts of the city will look far better with modern graphics. The game also looks like it will have a larger and more open world than "Vice City." Judging from the trailer, players being able to explore beyond the city itself and into the rural outskirts and swamps that make up Leonida, the "GTA" universe's stand-in for Florida.
