How Many People Still Play Fortnite?

It's almost impossible to call Fortnite's popularity into question at this point. The game is everywhere. The most well-known streamer on Earth plays it. Epic Games is making a fortune off of its microtransactions. There are a lot of people playing Fortnite right now. A lot. But perhaps you're more interested in a specific number.

Perhaps you want to know: how many people still play Fortnite? The closest we can get to assigning a figure to the game's player base is a piece from Business Insider, which hit on the topic back in March 2019.

According to that publication, Fortnite experienced sensational growth over a period of nine months. In June 2018, Epic Games announced that Fortnite had 125 million registered players. And in March 2019 — less than a year later — Epic revealed that Fortnite had doubled that amount, reaching 250 million players. We don't have the access to tell you how many people are currently playing Fortnite right at this moment — only Epic can disclose that information — but you can assume it's a large amount.

Even if Fortnite's earliest players uninstalled the game and never looked back, the game still added 125 million more in between the middle of 2018 and the beginning of 2019. That is stunning.

It's probably save to assume that those who play Fortnite (either regularly or occasionally) number in the tens of millions, if not over a hundred million. And that can give you a lot of insight into how Epic Games is making so much money off of the title. Even if every player isn't buying a $10 Battle Pass every season, they still might spend some money on a skin or another cosmetic from the in-game store. And thanks to that, Fortnite rakes in $2.5 million every single day.

That's as close as we can get to a current number when it comes to how many people are still playing Fortnite. If we find a more recent source of information, we'll be sure to update.
