Black Myth: Wukong Mods Are Getting Out Of Hand
"Black Myth: Wukong" is the surprise gift that keeps on giving. Game Science's first AAA title exploded onto the scene in August and quickly became one of the most-played games of all time on Steam. Not long after that, "Black Myth: Wukong" fans had their dreams come true when they learned that DLC is definitively on the way. Now gamers just need to find a way to make waiting for the next leg of the journey a little less painful. Luckily, it seems like Game Science and diehard fans were was already ahead of the curve here. "Black Myth: Wukong" is a single-player game — which is a big part of why it's already lost nearly 80% of its players — but the developers were clearly thinking about the game's longevity when they decided to allow mods. After getting to the end of the game, fans can now keep things fresh by modding "Black Myth: Wukong" into an entirely new experience.
As you might expect, gamers have been hard at work crafting mods for "Black Myth: Wukong," and what they've come up with is ... borderline concerning. Some Nexus Mod users, like Crubino, are just adding small cosmetics to the game, like Elvis Presley glasses. Others are transforming "Wukong" into a fever dream featuring the wildest cameos and game-breaking mechanics you've ever seen. We're loving every minute of it, so here are just a few of our favorite wacky mods.
Black Myth: San Andreas
"Here we go again."
"Black Myth: Wukong" features an epic opening cutscene that sets the stage for the game by introducing the conflict between Sun Wukong and Erlang Shen. A YouTuber called Dush recently uploaded a video showing off what that cutscene would look like if it set up a different battle entirely. It looks like a nostalgic modder has cast CJ and Big Smoke as the stars of "Black Myth: Wukong." Their mod hilariously turns Wukong's staff into an assault rifle, but CJ still uses it like a melee weapon.
At the time of this writing, this particular mod hasn't landed on Nexus or anywhere similar, but now that the video is being shared, it's hopefully only a matter of time before we all get to play it.
Goku brings things full circle
Did you know that "Black Myth: Wukong" already connects to one of the greatest anime of all time? That's right; the classic novel "Journey to the West" inspired both "Wukong" and the "Dragon Ball" franchise, and now there's a mod that transforms the Destined One into Goku. It was uploaded to Nexus Mods by a user called NorskPL, and it works by replacing one of the Destined One's outfits with a Goku skin. Compared to the wild visuals in the game, the almost cel-shaded Goku model looks a little off, but if you squint a bit while you play, it shouldn't be a problem.
There aren't any other gameplay effects right now, but it's a great way to geek out about your favorite "Journey to the West" inspired media. It just feels right to see Goku flying into battle with massive demons on a cloud.
Black Myth meets Call of Duty
"Black Myth: Wukong" is the perfect game for people who like games like "God of War" or "Jedi: Survivor." However, it's become so popular that even people who would never normally touch a "Souls"-adjacent game want to give it a try. Modders are hard at work turning "Black Myth: Wukong" into a game that can appeal to completely different audiences. A Redditor named Linxianwei posted a clip of what the game would look like as an FPS, essentially turning the game into "Call Of Duty: Wukong."
It won't be surprising to learn that even tough bosses like Black Bear Guai get a lot easier to beat with an assault rifle, but after tossing out controllers after losing so many boss battles, this is one easy mode that we'd really love to try for ourselves.

Minecraft: Wukong
If you're looking for a bit of nostalgia and a brand new weapon all rolled into one, then "Black Myth: Wukong" modder NorskPL has you covered yet again. Much like the Goku mod, this mod replaces one of the Destined One's standard weapons with a "Minecraft" inspired skin.
Unlike the FPS mod, however, this one won't make the game any easier. You might not be able to break down your enemies any faster with the double diamond pickaxe (even though you should), but the new weapon will make you look extra cool while you smash your foes to bits.
Obligatory Thomas cameo
Modders are a diverse bunch of people, but they all seem to agree on one thing: From "Resident Evil 2" to "Skyrim," Thomas the Tank Engine needs to be in every game. We aren't sure who created it, but Reddit user Kenny32vr saw this mod in action and uploaded a clip that's gotten shared all over. The mod replaces the monstrous Kang Jin-Loong boss battle with good ol' Thomas.
Of course, having this mod installed means you miss out on one of the coolest dragon fights in the game, but if you're grabbing a Thomas mod, you probably don't care about things like that in the first place.
