The GTA 6 Trailer 2 Line That Means More Than You Realized

The latest trailer for "Grand Theft Auto VI" dropped on Tuesday, May 6, and not surprisingly, has absolutely blown the gaming world away. People have already forgotten the terrible news about the release date, and it's been nothing but good vibes thrown Rockstar's way after what the publisher showed off in the new footage. In addition to seeing much more of the latest version of Vice City and the mind-blowing amount of detail that Rockstar has crammed into every inch of every frame, the new trailer also digs a lot more into the two new protagonists — Lucia Caminos and Jason Duval — and the way their relationship is going to figure heavily into the game's story.

Just as it obsessed over finding small details in the first "GTAVI" trailer, the internet is going to spend the next year poring over this new trailer for every little hint, clue, and Easter egg it might contain. But there is a pretty big one that happens in the opening moments that is easy to miss. Jason is seen up on a roof with a toolbox, and is asked by a character named Brian Heder — who sounds an awful lot like actor Stephen Root — what he's doing. To which Jason replies, "Oh, just fixing some leaks."

Seems like a pretty inconsequential line, one that is only meant to lead into the larger point of the scene. But it's more likely to be a clever dig on Rockstar's part, referencing the first big event that occurred on the timeline of the game's eventual unveiling.

The line is a reference to that infamous GTA 6 leak

Rockstar might have played coy for several years about whether a sixth mainline "Grand Theft Auto" entry was actually in development, but it was all part of the marketing game. Obviously there was going to be a "GTAVI," but it was just a matter of when Rockstar chose to unveil it, and how it was to be unveiled.

But even the best-laid plans by one of the most notoriously secretive game companies around weren't bulletproof, and a leak ended up revealing a lot about "GTAVI" — including its setting — before Rockstar had the chance to officially say "GTAVI" even existed. It ended up being an extremely messy affair that led to legal action for the alleged perpetrators and millions of dollars in recovery costs for Rockstar. It also forced Rockstar to change whatever plans it previously had in place to unveil "GTAVI," with the game's first official announcement and trailer following not long after the whole fiasco went down.

Since then, Rockstar has taken full control back over the marketing of "GTAVI," enrapturing the entire gaming world with each new bit of info — especially when a new trailer hits. That's more than likely what's being alluded to when Jason mentions that he's been "fixing some leaks," as Rockstar has most definitely done exactly that.
