This Disney Character Was Pitched For Super Smash Bros. Ultimate

Fans haven't been the happiest with the new fighters in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, creator Masahiro Sakurai included. Maybe everyone would have been hyped if they knew that a certain Disney character was considered as an addition to the game. That's what the latest rumor out of Kinda Funny Games has told us, anyway.

Former Game Informer news editor Imran Khan mentioned to the gang on the Kinda Funny Gamescast that Nintendo had "approached" Disney Japan about adding none other than Kingdom Hearts' own Sora into Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. Unfortunately for us, this idea was nixed.

Why should we trust Khan's word on this unconfirmed rumor? His tenure at Game Informer gave him access to a ton of industry secrets, it seems. He made hints at the The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild sequel long before Nintendo gifted us with that creepy trailer. Maybe we shouldn't discount this rumor, considering his track record.

Sora is far from the first non-Nintendo character rumored to be coming to Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, of course.

Rumored Super Smash Bros. Ultimate fighters

Before the end of 2021, there will be six more fighters added to the Super Smash Bros. Ultimate roster. This has left the internet with plenty of room to speculate, and some of those speculations are pretty wild. Remember when people were convinced that Halo's own Master Chief was coming to the game? The so-called "evidence" backing up that claim was much shakier than Khan's quip about the conversation between Nintendo and Disney Japan. It was based on a rather amateur recording of a "voice line" wherein Cortana said that Mario wanted to challenge the Chief to a fight.

More recently, casual fans and hardcore leakers alike have been convinced that Crash Bandicoot is a long overdue addition to the Super Smash Bros. series. Rather than announcing his addition to the roster, Fire Emblem: Three Houses' Byleth became the newest fighter. That didn't go over too well, with fans feeling that there were too many Fire Emblem fighters in the game. Fans want to be surprised by new and exciting fighters from interesting games — not more Fire Emblem characters with swords.

If this rumor is true, Sora certainly would have gotten fans excited. He carries a keyblade, which isn't exactly a sword... technically.
