GTA 6 Could Include A Major Feature Missing From GTA 5 And Red Dead Redemption 2

The stunning transformation of the Red Dead series took the franchise from being a decent-looking PlayStation 2 and Xbox action game all the way to becoming highly acclaimed and absolutely gorgeous open-world masterpieces. But for as incredible as "Red Dead Redemption II" looked — and how well it continues to hold up eight years later — it is missing one technical feature that has long frustrated a lot of gamers: graphical modes.

To be fair, console games having selectable graphics modes was far from commonplace back in 2018. Likewise, the original release of "Grand Theft Auto 5" didn't have them either, and it wasn't until 2022's "GTA 5" remaster included graphics settings that they finally made their debut in that franchise. Still, for "Red Dead Redemption II" to not have had them patched in at this point, even as the game has been ported to not only newer consoles but also PC, has been a sticking point for fans for a while now. Thankfully, it looks like "Grand Theft Auto 6" isn't going to repeat that mistake.

GTA 6 is expected to include selectable quality and performance modes

Various sources online over the past few days have indicated a pretty strong possibility that "GTA 6" will have selectable Quality and Performance modes. While that might be a foregone conclusion for most AAA game releases these days, as we explained, there was more than enough reason to wonder whether it would actually be the case for "GTA 6." Especially as the trailers released for the game thus far have obviously been running in 30fps, leaving people to wonder if the game will stay locked at that rate or if a 60fps mode will also be an option. Fortunately, it seems like the choice will exist, but there are some caveats.

The main asterisk next to the supposed confirmation of "GTA 6" having selectable graphic modes is that they might not be available on launch day, but rather will come at a later date via a patch. As far as how long that wait will be, it's impossible to know at this point. It seems unlikely that we'd be talking about an especially long wait, but then, it's been 13 years just for the game itself.

There has also been some speculation as to whether a 60fps mode would be exclusive to those who run the game on a PlayStation 5 Pro, which fortunately doesn't seem to be the case. However, it's much less likely that a 60fps mode would run on an Xbox Series S — though we're sure that people, for whom the Series S is their only current-gen console, are just happy it's coming to the weaker of the two Xbox Series platforms at all.
