GTA 6 Data Reveals The Percentage Of Pre-Orders For The Ultimate Edition

When "Grand Theft Auto 6" was finally made official and real speculation on the game began ramping up, its potential price point was a huge point of discussion. Most assumed that the $79.99 price point that has already been hit by games like "Mario Kart World" was a given, with some even suggesting "GTA 6" could be the first $100 game. As it turns out, the base game will indeed be $80, with a digital-only Ultimate Edition ringing in at $100. And given how much more the latter has sold so far in pre-orders, it would seem that gamers don't mind spending three figures on a version of "GTA 6" with all the bells and whistles.

As of now, a whopping 89% of "GTA 6" pre-orders have been for the $100 Ultimate Edition (via GamesIndustry). That completely blows away the typical balance for pre-orders of the standard version of a game and its higher-priced, premium counterpart, which usually amounts to between 10% and 20%. Obviously a new "GTA" game is going to be the exception to all kinds of rules, but that is a ratio unlike anything that has ever been seen before.

Total GTA 6 pre-orders have brought in over $400 million so far

"GTA 6" is almost guaranteed to be the single most profitable entertainment release of all time when it finally hits this November, usurping the previous holder of the title — which is none other than "GTA 5." But here we are, still three months away from "GTA 6" actually landing in players' hands, and it's already raking in hundreds of millions of dollars. As of now, the revenue brought in by pre-orders of "GTA 6" across all versions and platforms is just shy of $430 million. By comparison, only four movies released in 2026 so far have surpassed that milestone at the domestic box office. And this is before the mainstream, non-enthusiast audience has even fully had "GTA 6" marketing put in front of them yet.

A few other interesting figures to note as far as "GTA 6" pre-orders at press time is that PlayStation accounts for 77% of them versus Xbox's 23%. But the Ultimate Edition is the majority favorite for both console families, with 90% of Xbox's pre-orders being the Ultimate Edition and PlayStation's being about 88.5%. This unprecedented success doesn't bode very well for the gamers who are trying to get Sony to reverse course on its decision to abandon physical media in about a year in a half. But even the most steadfast physical media crusaders are apparently having a hard time resisting the allure of "GTA 6" which, it must be noted, has no true physical edition and is just a code in an empty case, even for the $80 retail version.
