GTA 6 PC Release: What The August 27 Reveal Did—And Didn't—Confirm

We still have to wait a couple of months to actually play "Grand Theft Auto VI," but to help make the wait sting a little less, Rockstar Games finally showed us what the game will actually look like. During an extended preview that aired on Netflix, viewers were treated to a full 27 minutes of gameplay and cutscenes. It left a lot to chew on. Unfortunately, it did leave one major elephant in the room completely unaddressed as well.

"Grand Theft Auto VI: An Extended Look" attempted to deliver on years of hype. It did so by focusing completely on the game with no commentary. No behind-the-scenes footage. Just the game itself. That had its benefits, but it also means that many direct questions weren't answered. Chief amongst them: what the heck is going on with the PC release? Put simply, it wasn't addressed. Not indirectly, not directly. Not at all.

We predicted that the "GTA 6" extended look might, in some way, address the PC release date question. When the game launches in November, it will be on the PlayStation 5, the Xbox Series X, and the Xbox Series S. PC players will have to wait longer to get in on the action. Just how much longer remains an open-ended question, one that will understandably frustrate PC-exclusive gamers.

Should PC players simply buy an Xbox or PlayStation for "GTA 6?" Or is the wait going to be short enough that it's better to exercise some patience? The sad truth, for the moment, is that we don't have a real answer to that question. It's a total mystery.

As noted by PC Gamer, Rockstar generally has fairly long gaps between the console release and PC release of its games. "Grand Theft Auto IV" was a seven-month wait, but "Grand Theft Auto V" was a whopping 19 months. Given the lengthy development process for "Grand Theft Auto VI," it wouldn't be surprising if the wait is on the longer end of that spectrum.

But again, for now, this is pure speculation. For what it's worth, this wasn't the only thing left unaddressed after the presentation. Rockstar pretty much didn't say anything about "GTA Online" or multiplayer either. These are evidently questions for another day. The synopsis for the game reads as follows:

Jason and Lucia have always known the deck is stacked against them. But when an easy score goes wrong, they find themselves on the darkest side of the sunniest place in America, in the middle of a criminal conspiracy stretching across the state of Leonida — forced to rely on each other more than ever if they want to make it out alive.

Beyond deciding whether to wait for the PC release, gamers have other choices to make. Does one bother with the "GTA 6" physical edition since it doesn't include a disc? Or is it better just to go digital? What about the even more expensive Ultimate Edition? These are questions that are exclusive to console gamers for the moment. PC gamers will have to wait a little longer.
