GTA 6's Leonida Map: Every New Location Rockstar Showed In The Extended Look

Rockstar is known for making massive, wildly immersive games, and for years, fans have been certain that "Grand Theft Auto 6" would be the developer's most realistic game yet. "GTA" fans have spent countless hours speculating about the new game's map and what locations players would get the chance to explore while revisiting Vice City.

Gamers still have serious nostalgia for the version of Vice City that they first explored in 2002. Many of them are hoping to revisit places like the Malibu Club or the Ocean View Hotel, and they may yet get a chance to. The internet-breaking first "GTA 6" trailer gave us some clues about the game's map, and we realized that the new game was going to massively expand not just Vice City but also its surrounding locations. On August 27, the "GTA 6" extended look on Netflix just gave us our best view of modern-day Leonida, showing us even more of Jason's beachfront home and Lucia's apartment. The extended look also took a small tour through Leonida, and now gamers finally know some solid details about the places where they'll be spending their time in the new game.

Effluvia is a rooftop bar in Vice City that will likely be the hub of plenty of activity for Jason and Lucia. In the "Grand Theft Auto 6" extended look on Netflix, we get to see the two of them take a daytime trip to Effluvia to meet with Brian Heder. Stephen Root is said to be playing Brian as part of the rumored "GTA 6" cast, and his character appears to be an important underworld business connection for Jason and Lucia.

At around 9:50 of the extended preview, we witness the criminal duo arrive at the swanky rooftop bar to talk with Brian about a job. They meet with Brian and a woman who may be his wife or girlfriend, but after getting down to business, it becomes apparent that the job just needs one person. Lucia leaves Effluvia while Jason and Brian smoke cigars beside a railing that overlooks the city.

Other "GTA" games have featured notable locations that players return to over and over again in order to get new jobs, but out of all the mission hubs in the franchise's history, Effluvia definitely seems to have the best views.

TV and radio culture has long been a feature and a source of biting satire in every game in the "Grand Theft Auto" series. Thanks to the extended "GTA 6" look on Netflix, we now know that gamers can expect plenty of satirical TV shows and ads in the new game. One of the satirical TV channels in "GTA 6" is called Megamundo, and, also thanks to that Netflix preview, we now know that the channel's headquarters will feature prominently in the game.

The "GTA 6" extended look shows us a portion of a mission where Jason and Lucia are hired as security guards. Andrés de León is an executive at Megamundo who seemingly has an intense drug addiction and a serious need for armed security. We see Jason and Lucia meet Andrés at an airport and then, at around 20:50, escort him to the Megamundo headquarters building. Andrés himself seems to be more interested in doing drugs than working, but ultimately, that doesn't matter because the scene at the Megamundo building quickly turns into a massive firefight.

The extended look keeps the actual story details of the Megamundo firefight under wraps, but we do get a decent look around and inside the building. For now, it's difficult to say whether or not the Megamundo headquarters building will be a prominent, recurring location throughout the game. Regardless, it appears to be the setting of an absolutely thrilling mission that we can't wait to experience for ourselves.

Every game in the "Grand Theft Auto" series seems to increase its fidelity to the real world, and that desire for realism really comes through in the maps. The three main islands and various neighborhoods of "GTA IV" were a massive expansion of the details present in the previous games, and the enormous map of "GTA V" pushed geographical realism even further. Fans have been hoping that "GTA 6" would continue the trend, and the extended look at the game on Netflix gave some tantalizing hints about how detailed the new map will be.

"GTA 6" is set in Vice City, but we can now absolutely confirm that the city will be larger, more detailed, and more realistic than it was in 2002's "GTA: Vice City." We saw some breathtaking overhead shots of the city in the extended look, and we also have Bayside — a specific neighborhood called out by Lucia, one of the game's two protagonists.

One scene in the Netflix preview, starting around 12:32, follows Jason and Lucia as they work a job involving a high-speed chase with the police. The duo change cars, escape the cops, and, at last, find freedom in Bayside. After Lucia names the neighborhood, the preview cuts to a few scattered shots of Bayside, showing us storefronts and the nearby beach. There's obviously so much more of Bayside left for players to discover firsthand, but the tiny slice of the district that we do see reveals that the locations in "GTA 6" will be more vibrant and realistic than anything the series has presented in the past.

The "Grand Theft Auto 6" extended look on Netflix gave us tantalizing peeks at some of the locations we'll be able to visit when the game finally debuts on November 19. The preview showed us some important named locations in the game, but it also gave us a sense of the general vibe of Vice City and the surrounding environments. The neighborhoods and beaches of Leonida look like they'll be fun to explore, but the preview's brief shot of the nearby swamps shows off a type of location we've never seen before in a "GTA" game.

We get just a few seconds to peek at the Leonida swamps in the "GTA 6" extended look. The shot that shows off the swamps also shows an activity players will be able to engage in there. At around 17:10, we watch Jason piloting a small boat through the waters, but we aren't sure exactly what he's doing there. In another shot in the extended look, we see Jason snorkeling in deep water, so it seems reasonable to assume that aside from boating through the swamp, we'll also be able to dive in its sludgy waters. Who knows what dangers and rewards lurk in the swamp, but whatever they are, we're excited to experience them firsthand when "GTA 6" is in our hands.
