Don't Make This Call Of Duty: Black Ops Cold War Mistake

Call of Duty: Black Ops – Cold War players on PlayStation 5 should be wary of the version they are playing, according to Eurogamer. Some may have been playing the PS4 version this whole time.

There are multiple editions of Call of Duty: Black Ops – Cold War available, including a Cross-Gen Bundle and the game's Ultimate Edition. For PlayStation users, these two versions include both the PS4 and PS5 iterations of the game. This is a major convenience for PS4 owners who intend on eventually getting the PS5, but a potential source of confusion for some who recently purchased the PS5.

Upon purchasing the digital version of either the Cross-Gen Bundle or the Ultimate Edition on the PlayStation Store, players will be given the choice of which parts of the bundle to download. These options include the PS4 and PS5 versions of Black Ops – Cold War's Campaign, Zombies, and Multiplayer components. Additionally, players can elect to download the entire bundle, which will download both versions of the game — and automatically set the PS4 version of the game as the default one for PS5 owners.

For PS5 owners who want the full experience, they need to select the game tile on the dashboard, find their way to the play button, check the three dots to enter the menu, and choose "PS5 | Full | Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War." Players can then experience Call of Duty: Black Ops – Cold War as it was intended on next-gen consoles.

While the game has suffered from this confusion and a variety of other issues, including timed Zombies mode exclusivity on PlayStation consoles for one year, Call of Duty: Black Ops – Cold War has largely been well-received by critics. On Metacritic, the PS4 and PS5 iterations have aggregate scores of 79 and 80, respectively. The title has been praised as a solid return to form for the Call of Duty: Black Ops subseries and a worthy follow-up to last year's Call of Duty: Modern Warfare.

Call of Duty: Black Ops – Cold War seems to be part of a broader trend for the Call of Duty series trying to appeal to the old school crowd. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare has been seen as the overall series' return to form, and it has seen resounding success ever since, hitting a sales record for the franchise. Following in that trend, Black Ops – Cold War hit a digital sales record for the highest numbers in franchise history.
