Cyberpunk 2077 Isn't Keanu Reeves' First Video Game

CD Projekt's Cyberpunk 2077 will arrive later this month, bringing a ton of action, role-play, and Keanu Reeves. Fans are excited to see the famous John Wick actor star in a video game, but many gamers might not remember that Cyberpunk 2077 is actually not Reeves' first video game — sort of. Those who watched the Bill & Ted science fiction comedy franchise will know that Reeves' likeness made an appearance in Bill & Ted's Excellent Video Game Adventure.

Reddit user u/ix_-Z-_xi pointed out Reeves' true first video game role via a meme shared in the r/gaming subreddit this week. The image noted that "people praise Keanu Reeves" for his role in Cyberpunk 2077, but they "never even played the first game he was in." Below the text was a screenshot from the 1991 Bill & Ted video game, which showed Reeves' 8-bit character and a black-and-white image of the actor's face beside an in-game speech bubble of him talking to William Shakespeare.

Fellow Bill & Ted fans flocked to the comments to share their memories of the game. A few commenters wrote about how bad the game was. "Bill and Ted's Bogus Video Game Adventure, mo' like," user corran450 wrote.

Bill & Ted's Excellent Video Game Adventure was published by LJN for the Nintendo Entertainment System. It was based on the 1989 film Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure, which followed William "Bill" S. Preston Esq. (Alex Winter) and Theodore "Ted" Logan (Reeves) as they traveled through time to collect historical figures for their high school history presentation. Players switched between Bill and Ted as they explored homes for clues on where to find each historical figure, as well as historical "bait" to draw the figures to the time machine. In the Reddit thread, user Invincidude wrote that this was a very difficult part of the game, since the bait was off the beaten path, where players were not allowed to go.

Cyberpunk 2077 looks like it is going to be a much more successful video game for Reeves. Gamers have been anticipating the release for a few years now, but Cyberpunk 2077 has already experienced several delays and was seemingly at risk of another one just a few weeks ago. RIght now, the game is finally due to hit Xbox Series X|S, Google Stadia, Xbox One, PlayStation 5, and PC on Dec. 10. After a long wait, fans are very eager to see what the game will hold, to the point where they've even taken to posting Cyberpunk 2077 spoilers online. Reeves' newest adventure is slated to be a hit, but real fans will never forget his first Video Game Adventure.
