The Reason Among Us Fans Should Watch The Game Awards

Geoff Keighley, host of The Game Awards, revealed this week that Among Us developer InnerSloth will unveil a brand new map for the social deception game during the awards show on Dec. 10. Fans have been eagerly awaiting news on the map since it was teased earlier this year, and now the wait is almost over. It may not be the Among Us custom maps addition that players were hoping for, but the new map is exciting nonetheless.

Keighley confirmed on Twitter on Wednesday that the first look at Among Us' new map will be presented at The Game Awards 2020. The included image showed a screenshot of Among Us crewmates on what appeared to be the map's spacious deck, complete with stairs and two control consoles. It's unclear exactly how The Game Awards will incorporate the map, but the awards show has previously presented game news by showing trailers and gameplay segments. It's possible the map will be revealed in a quick Among Us round with some popular streamers.

InnerSloth previously teased the map alongside the launch of Among Us' official Twitter account on Nov. 18. The developer showed the same image as Keighley and called it a "special look" at the new map before teasing that fans who are "hungry for more" should tune into The Game Awards this month. In the replies to the tweet, one user pointed out that one of the crewmates (or the impostor) appeared to be wearing a new armor-like skin that covers only half of the character, as well as a handlebar mustache. Not much is known about the map itself, but InnerSloth did previously reveal that it is based on one of its animated short series, Henry Stickmin.

Among Us is nominated for two awards at The Game Awards 2020. It is competing against Call of Duty Mobile, Genshin Impact, Legends of Runeterra, and Pokemon Cafe Mix for Best Mobile Game. Meanwhile, it's also up for the title of Best Multiplayer, along with Animal Crossing: New Horizons, Fall Guys: Ultimate Knockdown, Call of Duty: Warzone, and Valorant.

The Game Awards is going to look a little different this year — Keighley will host the show virtually across three different sound stages all over the world while the event is streamed on 45 different streaming services and platforms. Many games received multiple nominations in several categories, with PlayStation 4 titles dominating this year's nominees. Despite the new setting, the awards show will still be a hub for some huge game announcements. Among many other titles, Fall Guys has also teased that fans should tune into The Game Awards 2020.
