This Beloved RPG Is Coming To Mobile

It's been a long time since Star Wars fans were able to draw their lightsabers in the beloved RPG classic Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic. For gamers who have been hoping for some kind of news from the series, their wishes have finally been granted.

While fans may not get a Knights of the Old Republic 3 any time soon (if at all), they will be able to experience the second game in a whole new way: on their mobile devices. Announced via Twitter, Aspyr Media will be launching a specially optimized port of Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic 2: The Sith Lords for both iOS and Android platforms on December 18. This is great news, but will it satisfy the itch for those who have wanted a new game in the series?

Fans on social media are generally pleased, though some have asked for a Switch port, while others have wondered if any of the cut content from the original will be included. Unfortunately, it looks as though it won't contain any lost material that has since been restored by modders.

Earlier in the year, there was some speculation that Knights of the Old Republic would make a comeback. After all, both the first KOTOR and its sequel are generally considered to be some of the best Star Wars games. The rumor came off the heels of the success of Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, claiming that the new game would fall somewhere between a remake and a sequel. While there were several factors working against the possibility of a new entry in the series, KOTOR and one of its main characters, Darth Revan, have since been made canon.

In 2018, Obsidian Entertainment, the studio responsible for Knights of the Old Republic 2, was acquired by Microsoft. Under a new parent company, is it possible that the mobile release is only the beginning and that more KOTOR-related games will be on their way soon?

A movie adaptation of KOTOR is allegedly in the works, and with a new mobile port and the possibility of a new game on the horizon, fans have plenty of reason to be excited. Perhaps if and when a Knights of the Old Republic film is released, a new game will launch alongside it. It would certainly be a joyous occasion for those who have waited so long.

For now, fans will have the mobile version of KOTOR 2 to hold them over while they watch for other exciting developments to arise from the KOTOR universe.
