Elden Ring: How To Get The Sword Of Night And Flame

There are a lot of things that make "Elden Ring" a great game. There's the massive open world players get to explore and the insanely difficult bosses that they get to battle, but there's also a wide variety of combat options. These are largely configured by which class the player chooses at the beginning and how they plan to build that character throughout the game. "Elden Ring" certainly isn't easy. It offers that same degree of challenging gameplay that FromSoftware has become known for in all of its titles, but the right build can make it considerably less of a grind. A good build doesn't just come down to classes and stats though. Players also need to make sure to hunt down the right weapons and armor.

Magic users are largely designed to keep their distance, dodge when threatened, and whittle away an enemy's health with ranged spell attacks. Sometimes that isn't an option, though. Some boss fights trap the player in close quarters with an enemy and force them into melee range. Charging up spells will leave the player open to attack which is a great shortcut to a "You're Dead" screen. Their best bet in those situations is for players to get their hands on a melee weapon like the legendary Sword of Night and Flame, which is one of the best in the game. The best part? It's available pretty early.

Why magic users want the Sword of Night and Flame

Weapons and armor in "Elden Ring" work just like they did in "Dark Souls" – which is to say – not every weapon works for every build. Each piece of equipment has different stat requirements that the player needs to meet before they can use the item in question. This is where it gets tricky for a magic class. Most melee weapons use either Strength or Dexterity as the base stat, where the player needs to have a high score in order to equip it, which is not your typical mage's strong suit. The Sword of Night and Flame is different. It requires the player to have 12 Strength, 12 Dexterity, 24 Intelligence, and 24 Faith, making it ideal for a magic-user.

The sword deals 87 physical damage in those melee encounters where spells just won't do and it gives players access to the Night and Flame Stance. This skill allows those who wield the blade to hold it level and follow up a normal attack with either Night Comet sorcery or a sweeping flame attack. It can also be upgraded with Somber Smithing Stones to make it even stronger. All of this adds up to a pretty powerful weapon that only magic users can wield.

Where to find the Sword of Night and Flame

One of the best things about getting the Sword of Night and Flame is that players can get it just after they clear Stormveil Castle near the beginning of the game. In fact, many players may be able to find this weapon before they even have time to build up the stats to use it.

The sword is located in a locked room in Caria Manor in Liurnia of the Lakes. Players should begin at the Site of Grace located in the manor's lower level. From there, head east across the rooftops and north at the first intersection, continuing down the path until reaching a dead-end. Be careful, as spirit soldiers may appear along this route. Jump down to the rooftop on the northern side and then down to another rooftop north of that one. Next, take the ladder down to the ground where the player should find themselves in a small room with a chest. This chest contains one of the best weapons for magic users in "Elden Ring" – the Sword of Night and Flames. Use it wisely.
