Emotional PewDiePie Announces His Dream Finally Came True

Back in 2019, PewDiePie casually announced at the end of a video that he intended to move to Japan. After a successful trip to the country, he and his wife Marzia bought a house there and quickly began making plans to move. However, life found a way of preventing that from happening for some time. Now, PewDiePie and Marzia have officially made the trip across seas to live in Japan. Of course, PewDiePie had to make a video detailing the long journey, from getting their visas to settling in to their home, and the result was a surprisingly emotional clip. But what took the streamer so long to move when he'd already bought a house in Japan? The story is unfortunately sadder than some fans might have expected.

Back in 2018, Sanrio treated PewDiePie and Marzia to a trip to Japan. The couple got to explore the Sanrio store, hit up famous sightseeing spots in Japan, and get a drawing lesson from an official Sanrio artist. The trip was so much fun that PewDiePie and Marzia decided to move there permanently the next year. They began making preparations to move, buying property and trying to get all of their paperwork in order, but things quickly took a turn for the worse.

There were lots of setbacks before the move

First, PewDiePie's house was broken into. He created a vlog about the robbery, showing cute images in order to distract himself from his own disappointment. PewDiePie explained that in the course of a week, his home in the UK was flooded and his house in Japan was broken into, with all of its contents stolen. While PewDiePie simply stated that his house was robbed, his wife Marzia offered more tragic details about the situation. Insider recounted some of Marzia's Instagram stories from the time, in which she said that "they took 90% of my valuables, from my jewelry, to luxury goods and special items." Marzia noted that it might sound materialistic to mourn the loss of physical goods, but the robbery was shocking, demonstrating that things can change in an instant. Needless to say, the couple had to deal with the loss and prepare their house once again to be move-in ready.

Then, as essentially the entire world remembers, COVID-19 hit in 2020, shutting down most travel for a time. In 2021, PewDiePie updated fans on his move again, explaining why he hadn't left for Japan just yet. He explained that Japan had closed its borders to everyone for a time, including people who were trying to move to the country and going through the visa process.

Because the pandemic was devastating for so many, PewDiePie said he didn't want to dwell too much on not being able to move. "It just felt like, I don't think the world needs someone who's well off complaining about how COVID has affected them," PewDiePie explained. He then admitted that the process was getting frustrating as the couple continued to wait for the borders to reopen. He said that despite low case numbers, Japan offered no updates about when it might reopen.

PewDiePie and Marzia finally made the move

The YouTuber said that they were sticking to their plan, though, and had been approved for a 5-year business visa. This was contingent on PewDiePie getting an office in Japan, sight unseen. Luckily, the couple's patience paid off, and PewDiePie and Marzia were ready once Japan's borders opened again.

PewDiePie uploaded a new YouTube video detailing the move, which was more complicated than he'd even anticipated, even after two years of waiting and planning. The move was complicated even further by PewDiePie and Marzia's dogs, who required additional planning and consideration. They opted to fly on a private jet because they couldn't find an airline that would let the pups ride in the cabin, but even that would only work after a lengthy process of verifying the pugs' vaccinations. Finally, with everything in order, the couple began the long flight to Japan.

Even as they were about to land, PewDiePie was nervous that they might not be accepted into the country. Thankfully, everything went smoothly. As Marzia and PewDiePie rode to their new home with their pugs, PewDiePie took off his mask and sighed, "We did it." PewDiePie shared his heartfelt thanks to fans and friends who supported them throughout the process and said that he and Marzia were going to take a little time to settle in after their stressful move. The streamer appeared genuinely emotional and thankful that his long road to Japan was at an end.

After getting honest about his former addiction in 2021 and his move to Japan in 2022, it seems that PewDiePie is ready to turn over a new leaf and begin a new chapter of his life with Marzia and his pups by his side.
