Does The Last Of Us Part I Include Factions Multiplayer?

With an HBO live action series on the way and a next-gen remake for PS5 arriving soon, fans everywhere are preparing to jump back into "The Last of Us." Naughty Dog's "The Last of Us," was originally released on the PS3 in 2013 to critical acclaim, with many calling it one of the greatest games of all time (via attackofthefanboy). Much of its success can be credited to its engaging narrative in which players take control of Joel as they help a young girl named Ellie navigate a post-apocalyptic world with danger lurking around every corner. But "The Last of Us" had more than just a single-player campaign to offer.

"The Last of Us" also featured a multiplayer mode called Factions that many felt was criminally underrated (via Hardcore Gamer). In the mode, players would be responsible for a clan of survivors. To gather supplies for the clan, players would take part in multiple different PvP game modes, such as Supply Raid and Survivors. Unsurprisingly, after the announcement for the remake "The Last of Us Part 1," many were left wondering if the game would feature the Factions multiplayer mode. And just recently, fans finally got an answer.

The Last of Us Part 1 will not have multiplayer, but something bigger will replace it.

A recent update to the "Last of Us Part 1" store page detailed some major changes coming with the title, such as enhanced visuals, 3D audio, and an enhanced listen mode. Yet the page noted that not everything is returning for the remake. For example, the FAQs section confirms that "The Last of Us Part 1" will not include the Factions multiplayer mode, news that will undoubtedly disappoint many.

However, that's not to say Naughty Dog has given up on its "The Last of Us" multiplayer endeavors. Naughty Dog is currently developing a standalone multiplayer game set in "The Last of Us" universe. And it will be much more than an updated Factions mode, as creative director Neil Druckmann described it as "big as any of our single-player games that we've done, and in some ways bigger." However, the finer details on the multiplayer title have yet to be released. And fans will have to wait until next year to learn more.

The exclusion of the Factions multiplayer mode from the remake will be hard to swallow for some, and without one of the major modes from the first game included, some may choose to skip out on this remake.
