One Component In PS5 Consoles Might Limit GTA 6's Performance — Even The Pro

There seems to be a fair amount of optimism lately on the internet that "Grand Theft Auto 6" could include the graphics settings options missing from "GTA 5" and "Red Dead Redemption 2." The assumption is that said options would include some version of fidelity and performance modes, which, following tradition, would mean the former keeps things at a steady 30fps for the sake of higher detail in the visuals, while the latter would bump the frame rate up to 60fps at the expensive of the graphics being not quite as crisp.

Given that all of the "GTA 6" footage released by Rockstar so far has been running at 30fps, with Rockstar itself remaining mum on the subject, anything to suggest that the game will run any faster than that is purely speculative at this point. As of yet, the PlayStation 5 has been able to handle some pretty graphically-intensive games at 60fps, but "GTA 6" is sure to be one of the best-looking games ever made, if not the best.

It's been said that PS5 Pro is the console to own for "GTA 6," with the standard PS5 likely not being able to run the game at max settings. However, if some of the industry's most knowledgeable graphics experts are to be believed, the PS5 Pro might not be able to hack it, either.

The CPU in PlayStation 5s might not be up to snuff for 60fps GTA 6

While the initial announcement of the PS5 pro had PlayStation fans up in arms, primarily because of its price, a game like "GTA 6" that fully justifies the upgrade — especially if it means literally double the frame rate — might convince a lot of people to bite. However, the gang over at Digital Foundry seem unconvinced that either model of PS5 will be able to run "GTA 6" at 60fps.

Various outlets specializing in video game performance and console tech specs have been saying that the PS5's CPU simply isn't powerful enough to run — at 60fps — all the impressive details and copious amounts of animation filling nearly every inch of the screen in the "GTA 6" trailers that have been released thus far. What about the PS5 Pro, though?

While the PS5 Pro offers several key technical advantages over the original PS5, the actual CPU performance received only a very marginal upgrade — and ultimately, that is where "GTA 6" and its potential to run at 60fps would need the most help. Best case scenario would likely be 40fps at most, especially at launch. Of course, this is all just anyone's best educated guess, based on what's been shown so far, plus knowing Rockstar's track record on PS5.
