5 Of The Rarest PS5 Games You Can Buy
We're in an era when it feels like there's less of a need for physical video games, at least when the industry trends towards digital-only releases. This distinction is highlighted by PlayStation changing the way people buy games by 2028 as it moves away from disc-based games. That makes games that received physical releases, particularly limited collector's editions, an increasingly precious commodity for fans. And given Sony's change in release strategy, there are plenty of rare PlayStation 5 games, at least in terms of physical editions on the market.
From beloved games that saw their collector's edition sell out quickly to indie releases with limited production runs, we're looking at rarest PS5 games. Many of these titles are still available on the second-hand market, but selling for far more than their retail price. To find some of these releases in good condition and all the extras still included is definitely something of a rarity. These are five of the rarest PS5 games you can buy, if you're willing to shell out a pretty penny for each of them.
Cult of the Lamb True Believer Edition
One of the best indie games of the PS5 generation is the 2022 title "Cult of the Lamb." Developed by Massive Monster and published by Devolver Digital, the game combines community-building simulator and roguelike action. It put out several physical releases, but the rarest of them all is the True Believer Edition, playing on its cult premise. Limited to only approximately 300 copies, this version of the indie game is one of the scarcest physical titles for the PS5.
The True Believer Edition of "Cult of the Lamb" comes with a plush of the lamb protagonist, a signed art book, two art prints, and a digital version of the soundtrack. Interestingly, this edition also comes with two physical copies of the game, a standard release and a specially numbered display copy reflecting its limited production run. This edition sells for around $750 when it's in mint condition, while complete sets still sell for nearly $600. An indie rarity with quite a small number of copies produced, "Cult of the Lamb" True Believer Edition is a true collector's item.
God of War Ragnarök Jötnar Edition
Among the best PS5 games so far is "God of War Ragnarök," the latest mainline installment in Sony's epic fantasy franchise. The game continues Kratos' adventures with his son Atreus as they confront the Norse pantheon, including the formidable Thor. When the game was released in 2022, Sony Interactive Entertainment and Santa Monica Studio pulled out all the stops for its different editions. Barring specially branded PlayStation 5s bundled with the game, the most exclusive iteration of "God of War Ragnarök" was its Jötnar Edition.
Included with the Jötnar Edition is a 16-inch replica of Mjolnir, a cloth map of Yggdrasil, the game's soundtrack on vinyl, carvings of the Vanir twins, and dice and pins. The edition also comes with digital versions of the soundtrack, an art book, and interestingly, a digital version of the game itself. That's right, despite shipping with a steelbook display case, the Jötnar Edition doesn't actually have a physical version of the game included. The North American version of the Jötnar Edition routinely sells for around $300 while its European version sells for over $400 as a testament to its scarcity.
Resident Evil 4 (2023) Collector's Edition
There was a lot riding on the 2023 remake of "Resident Evil 4," one of the most beloved titles in Capcom's iconic survival horror franchise. Fortunately, the critics widely praised the "Resident Evil 4" remake for retaining the 2005 game's charm while modernizing the whole experience. To celebrate the eagerly anticipated remake's launch, Capcom produced several different versions of the game, including its physical editions. The most valuable of these releases for the PlayStation 5 is the game's highly sought-after collector's edition.
Shipping in a large box resembling the containers holding toxic materials, the collector's edition comes with a 12-inch figure of protagonist Leon S. Kennedy, an art book, and a poster-sized map. The game also includes codes for a digital version of the game's soundtrack, in-game DLC such as cosmetics and weapons, and the steelbook version of the game itself. Like-new versions of the collector's edition can sell for over $680 while worse quality full sets sell for around $530. Landing one of these complete "Resident Evil 4" editions is a heck of a feat and definitely comes at a premium cost.
Baldur's Gate III Deluxe Edition
After a lengthy hiatus, the iconic fantasy franchise "Baldur's Gate" returned in a big way in 2023 with "Baldur's Gate III." The game adapts the fifth and current edition of "Dungeons & Dragons" for its gameplay mechanics and primary setting within the Forgotten Realms. Recognizing the hype around the game and growing interest in its tabletop source material from webseries like "Critical Role," the game's physical release saw several different editions. The Deluxe Edition is the standout of the bunch and, given the game's overall popularity, something of a pricey rarity.
The Deluxe Edition comes with a box resembling a "Dungeons & Dragons" rulebook, a Mind-Flayer poster, stickers and patches, the world map, and a physical version of the soundtrack. In contrast to "God of War Ragnarök" and the "Grand Theft Auto VI" physical edition, the "Baldur's Gate III" Deluxe Edition includes the game physically, spread across two discs. All told, a complete version of the Deluxe Edition in good condition sells for over $200 while graded versions sell for close to $500. Befitting its status as one of the best fantasy games of all time, "Baldur's Gate III" has a solid deluxe edition for its ultimate fans.
Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 Collector's Edition
One of the best video games of 2025 was the turn-based RPG "Clair Obscur: Expedition 33," developed by Sandfall Interactive. That acclaim also translated to widespread popularity, driving up the value and scarcity in some of the game's physical editions. The rarest of these releases was the Collector's Edition, with this particular version sold exclusively at GameStop. That makes the "Clair Obscur: Expedition 33" Collector's Edition the rarest and most expensive physical release for the PlayStation 5 so far.
The Collector's Edition for "Clair Obscur: Expedition 33" includes a hand-painted music box, a hardcover art book, and a steelbook edition of the game, yes, with the game actually on-disc. The edition comes with the requisite DLC bonuses, this time in the form of different cosmetics for its playable characters. A complete version of the Collector's Edition in mint condition sells for around $1,200, while complete sets in good condition still sell for over $900. A truly rare PlayStation 5 physical release with the price tag to prove it, the "Clair Obscur: Expedition 33" Collector's Edition is worth a small fortune.
