The Nioh Series Is Getting The Next-Gen Treatment

With the PlayStation 5 now Sony's main console of focus, Team Ninja's Nioh series will get remasters on the PS5 on February 5, 2021, with The Nioh Collection. According to a PlayStation Blog post by Team Ninja Creative Director Tom Lee, the collection's release will also be accompanied by Nioh 2: The Complete Edition's release on the PlayStation 4 and PC.

Nioh Remastered: The Complete Edition and Nioh 2 Remastered: The Complete Edition on PS5 can either be purchased either separately or together in The Nioh Collection. The Nioh Collection includes the remastered base games of Nioh and Nioh 2 as well as their respective DLC content. Meanwhile, Nioh 2: The Complete Edition's PS4 release will include Nioh 2 as well as its three expansions, The Tengu's Disciple, Darkness in the Capital, and The First Samurai. Nioh 2: The Complete Edition available for pre-order on November 20, 2020, just ahead of The First Samurai's launch on December 17, 2020.

Players who decide to purchase Nioh 2: The Complete Edition on PS4 can upgrade to its PS5 version at no additional cost. Alternatively, players who exclusively own Nioh 2's base game can upgrade to Nioh 2 Remastered. However, Lee notes Nioh 2 Remastered and its DLC expansions cannot be purchased individually on the PS5.

In addition to faster load times, both PS5 remasters will include enhanced visuals with 4K resolution and the ability to run at 120 FPS. For those who already own the titles on PS4, their save data will transfer over so they can continue from where they left off.

According to a report from IGNNioh 2: The Complete Edition's PC release can also perform at up to 120 FPS depending on the PC. Further, Nioh 2: The Complete Edition enables PC players to use gamepads and fully modify the mouse and keyboard setup to their preference. This edition is available for pre-order on Steam at $49.99.

Given Nioh 2's positive reception, Nioh 2: The Complete Edition and Nioh 2 Remastered: The Complete Edition look to be a steal for those who missed out on these titles the first time around. Nioh 2 is considered one of the best games of 2020, so PS5 owners might consider adding this to their collection.

While the Nioh series is the latest to get the remaster treatment for PS5, there are more titles in the pipeline that will receive enhancements for PS5. For instance, EA announced some of its games will get next-gen upgrades, including Star Wars Squadrons, Apex Legends, and The Sims 4. Marvel's Spider-Man Remastered received controversial next-gen enhancements, with a poorly-received Peter Parker makeover.
