Marvel's Avengers Fans Just Got More Bad News
Square Enix has continued to offer more updates for Marvel's Avengers since the game's release on Sep. 4, possibly as part of their efforts to make up for lost profits. Post-game content has been added regularly, including more War Table and multiplayer missions for fans to continue their adventure, along with various patches. But perhaps the most anticipated update includes the addition of Kate Bishop as a playable character, along with her own story and operation involving a showdown with AIM and noted adversary Super-Adaptoid.
For those unfamiliar with the character, Kate Bishop is also known as Hawkeye, and is a protege of Clint Barton (plans for Barton to make an appearance in the game have been announced for release in 2021). While she has no superpowers, Kate possesses incredible skill with a bow and arrow. Bishop started out as a Young Avenger in the comic series, and took on the mantle of Hawkeye after Clint Barton's death. Her main story in Marvel's Avengers will pit her against Super-Adaptoid, a robot created by AIM that has the ability to copy the abilities of its enemies.
However, after already contending with delays, an announcement from Marvel's Avengers official Twitter stated that some of Kate Bishop's content will be held back until after the DLC's planned Dec. 8 release date. Specifically, Kate's Omega-Level missions, including those involving AIM Cloning Labs and Super-Adaptoid, will not release at the same time as her other missions. The Omega-Level Threats were an add-on in the early days of the game's release, meant to give players an extra challenging experience, especially through its multiplayer option which requires coordinated teamwork to complete.
The tweet stated that the Omega-Level versions will need "a little more time to polish," however Kate Bishop's regular story operation will still be available on Dec. 8. Comments in the thread showed the displeasure of some fans, who wondered about the delays for AIM Cloning Labs, while others were begging for more content and a better variety of enemies and locations. Some gamers even stated that they will be too busy playing Cyberpunk 2077 to enjoy the added updates, since the highly anticipated sci-fi RPG from CD Projekt Red will be released just two days later on Dec. 10.
Marvel's Avengers has had a number of complications this year, from multiple delays of the game's release to the outrage from fans for excluding non-Playstation gamers from the Spider-Man DLC. Square Enix can only hope that the addition of Kate Bishop to the game will ultimately please the fans.
