The Creepy Supernatural Easter Egg You May Have Missed In Hitman: Contracts

Hitman 3 will be out on January 20, 2021, almost 21 years after Hitman: Codename 47 first debuted on PC. Agent 47 has racked up an impressive body count along the way – 347 people by one estimate. All of that killing could make the Hitman franchise a grim, dark slog. To avoid that, developer IO Interactive has added lots of fun small touches to give the games more personality. Hitman titles are full of jokes and Easter eggs that make the murder a bit more lighthearted.

One easily missable Easter egg can be found in Hitman: Contracts, which was released in 2004 on PC, PS2, and Xbox and re-released in the Hitman HD Trilogy on PS3 and Xbox 360 in 2013. The "Traditions of the Trade" mission takes 47 to the posh Budapest Bath Hotel, where he has to knock off two of the Fuchs brothers. And during the mission, 47 can find an actual ghost wandering the hotel. This Easter egg brought supernatural flair to the franchise, years before Hitman 2's October 2019 Halloween update did.

Here's how to find the spooky ghost Easter egg in Hitman: Contracts.

The ghost in Hitman: Contracts

Once inside the hotel, head to the right and find a locked door to a closed off wing. Pick the lock and go inside. Follow the hallway into the closed wing, and around the corner, the ghost can be found wandering the hallway, flickering in and out of sight. The ghost can also be spotted in the bathroom mirror inside Room #108. Inside the bathroom, stare into the mirror, and the ghost will appear over 47's shoulder. In both cases, staring directly at the ghost will make it disappear. However, if 47 can sneak up behind the ghost when it's in the hallway, he can kill it with his fiberwire. This nets you the "Ghostbuster" achievement in the HD re-release version.

Who is this ghost? The game doesn't specify. But the reason the hotel wing is sealed off is because one room contains a crime scene where a guest has been murdered. Most likely the ghost is the spirit of whoever this unfortunate victim was. Between this guy and the soon-to-be dead Fuchs brothers, the Budapest Bath Hotel probably isn't getting many five-star Yelp reviews.
