Halo Infinite Is Doing Something The Series Has Never Done Before

Media outlets were surprised to find that "Halo Infinite" didn't include the mission replay option from past "Halo" games. Some, like Kotaku, admitted that it wasn't a completely necessary feature, but that its absence took away the enjoyment of playing through the story missions more than once.

One Microsoft rep originally told Kotaku that the team was "looking into it." Another clearly said to Polygon that story missions were not replayable.

"The postgame does give you the option to keep exploring the wider environment, but for missions like the first two, where you're not on the ring yet, you can't replay from the same save file," the Microsoft rep confirmed. "You'd be able to get any remaining FOBs, targets, [and] audio logs, but the main story missions would not repeat."

Postgame still has plenty of opportunities for players, casuals, and completionists alike, but it's understandable that some fans would be disappointed that the replay feature wasn't included in the campaign. Thankfully, 343 Industries' Paul Crocker cleared up the issue with The Verge.

What we know about Halo Infinite's mission replay

"Halo Infinite" currently doesn't have a mission select menu, but the team is working on it. Crocker told The Verge that the team hoped to have it ready, along with other delayed popular modes, but needed to push it to the back to make room for higher priority features for launch. Mission select doesn't have an expected launch date at this time.

"We want to have replay that works well, and when you have a more open game, it gets a lot trickier," Crocker explained.

Earlier this year, 343 Industries announced that fans would have to wait until 2022 for the highly anticipated co-op campaign and Forge modes. So, even with the early "Halo Infinite" multiplayer release, fans are still finding reasons for disappointment. Developers also needed to address the game's grind problem and the "Fractures: Tenrai" event that went off the rails

"Halo Infinite" multiplayer is available for free on PC, Xbox One, or Xbox Series X|S. Those who paid for the full game can play the "Halo Infinite" campaign on the originally promised launch date.
