Marvel's Midnight Suns Release Date, Trailer, And Characters- What We Know So Far

For those who have been waiting for a sequel to "Xcom 2," you'll have to wait even longer. However, you might find some solace in "Marvel's Midnight Suns." This turn-based, strategy game is developed by none other than the famed XCOM studio itself, Firaxis, and it was recently given plenty of new information at the Summer Games Fest.

The title's development seems to have been pretty tumultuous so far, as evidenced by it being quickly delayed after its initial reveal, which had fans divided over its intensive card-battling mechanics. Of course, the card-battling hasn't deterred everyone, and excitement for a Marvel-fueled Firaxis game has persisted. Delays aside, the game seems to be reaching the final stretch of development. The game's moment to shine in the Summer Games Fest showed gamers story details, a release date, and even more classic Marvel characters. Here's what fans can expect from "Marvel's Midnight Suns."

Does Marvel's Midnight Suns have a release date?

Fans won't have to wait too much longer to get their hands on the next Marvel game, since "Marvel's Midnight Suns" is planned to launch on October 7, 2022. Last-gen console owners won't be left out in the cold, either. The game will launch on PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and on PC through Steam and the Epic Games store. Everyone that wants to play the game will be able to. Well, except for one console.

Sadly, it seems that, for the time being, the Nintendo Switch will have to miss out on this one. Likewise, there aren't any plans at the moment regarding the game possibly being included as part of Xbox Game Pass or PlayStation Plus. There may be plans for a port to Nintendo's portable in the future, but there will be plenty of other platforms to choose from in the meantime.

Is there a trailer for Marvel's Midnight Suns?

In addition to the game's announcement trailer and gameplay reveal trailer, we now have a good look at the story thanks to the recent "Darkness Falls" trailer. It's in this trailer, that we get a terrifying look at primary antagonist Lilith, Mother of Demons. What's Lilith up to? Oh, she's simply attempting to summon an ancient, Elder God known as Chthon. The "Darkness Falls" trailer shows that whatever Lilith may like in manpower can be made up by her ability to seemingly bend others to her will.

Opening up on the beloved symbiote Venom as he's looking primed to chow down on some brains, he suddenly runs away from a mysterious glow originating from offscreen. As Lilith's eerie narration and green flames corner him in an alley, she ties him up in flames before revealing, at the trailer's end, that Venom has been transformed into a more demonic version of himself and is now serving Lilith. Of course, the trailer also reveals plenty of other Marvel favorites as well.

What characters are in Marvel's Midnight Suns?

Confirming some rumors from fans, Peter Parker himself swung into action in yet another new suit. He's not the only classic character reveal with an interesting new look, however. The Incredible Hulk made a surprise appearance in the trailer's ending but as a demon serving Lilith — Likely another victim of her puppeteering powers.

The list of confirmed heroes goes on and on, however, as Wolverine, Ghost Rider, Blade, Doctor Strange, Iron Man, Nico Minoru, Magik, Captain America, Captain Marvel, and more joined the ranks. There are likely even more characters that haven't been revealed quite yet, which could be saved for some exciting moments within the game's story. Thanks to the extended looks we've had with multiple trailers, it seems that nearly every character is being given an exciting new design for "Marvel's Midnight Suns."

With several months left to go before the game is released, it's likely that even more information and/or gameplay will be shown before players get their hands on it. If you don't need any further convincing, pre-orders are available now and even include a skin variant for Doctor Strange.
