5 Biggest GTA 6 Features Reddit Predicted—And Which Ones Rockstar Actually Confirmed
It's been more than a decade of waiting for "Grand Theft Auto VI," and it's already been a couple of years since the first teaser trailer for the game dropped online. That has led to much speculation about what players can expect from the Rockstar Games sequel, arguably the most hotly anticipated video game in history.
Fortunately, the curtain has finally been pulled back. Not only did the "GTA 6" extended look on Netflix answer some major questions, but several major media outlets have also revealed additional details about the game, giving us a much better idea of what to expect. But we also have many, many questions remaining, with many of the most rampant predictions from the Reddit community still left hanging.
"GTA 6" is going to be a long game, which Rockstar has already confirmed. Even after all the recent reveals, there's a whole lot more we still don't know than we do. With the presentation in the rearview mirror, we're going to look at the biggest features of the game that Reddit predicted, while noting which ones were actually confirmed by Rockstar.
Spoiler alert, but some key features are still left hanging in the balance, leaving much to discuss. Let's get into it.
A look at how the Jason and Lucia gameplay functions in GTA 6
The thing about the "Grand Theft Auto VI: An Extended Look" presentation is that Rockstar decided to let the game itself do the talking. So anything that was "confirmed" was confirmed by what played out, rather than by someone at Rockstar explicitly saying so. But the presentation made it clear how the gameplay will function with the dual protagonists, Jason and Lucia.
Rockstar indirectly confirmed a lot about the gameplay in "GTA 6," but the biggest takeaway is that the presentation offered a clear understanding of how this dual relationship will work for the player. This was perhaps the single biggest thing that Reddit and other corners of the internet were curious about ahead of the reveal. We now know it's going to be kind of the player's choice. Want to be the one shooting at the cops during a car chase? Or would you rather drive? It seems to be up to the player to decide.
This isn't quite like switching between several independent characters in the "Grand Theft Auto V" story. The presentation made it clear that Jason and Lucia are much closer, romantically involved, and living together. So the player will be dealing with both of them throughout, but there will be a fair amount of freedom in how they engage with the characters.
Speaking with IGN, Rob Nelson, the head of development and co-studio head at Rockstar North, made it clear that the romantic element isn't even something that has to be engaged with all that much. "I have to say it feels great — if you are into it as a concept. Don't bother with it if you aren't. Up to you."
A better understanding of just how massive the GTA 6 map is
One of the biggest things that Reddit discussed ad nauseum before Rockstar pulled the curtain back on "Grand Theft Auto VI" was the size of the map. Vice City, which once took up an entire game, is now just part of a much larger world. The "GTA 6" map is all about the city of Leonida, which was shown off in the extended look.
Naturally, Rockstar wasn't going to go into detail about every corner of this massive map, but the 27-minute presentation showed off many of the locations, offering a much better sense of just how expansive it is. So yes, Rockstar did, in some way, confirm that the map is massive, without giving away the excitement of discovery that comes with playing a new "Grand Theft Auto" game.
"There's a whole lot of stuff that you discover emergently that we're not necessarily directing you to through objectives or blips or icons on a map as well," Rob Nelson said to IGN. "If you take a bit of time and explore, you will be rewarded — a lot. It's a big map, a very big map."
There were lots of tiny details hidden in the "GTA 6" extended look, in no small part because the map and everything on display was truly massive. As of this writing, we don't have firm specs or a concrete idea of how the map stacks up against, say, "GTA 5," but it feels safe to say it's bigger in every way. Does bigger equal better in this case? Time will tell, but Rockstar made the case that yes, it does.
A 60 FPS performance mode for Grand Theft Auto VI
One of the biggest elephants in the room that we regret to inform you of is the performance specs for "Grand Theft Auto VI." Specifically, will the game play at 60 FPS? This is something Reddit was — and still is — very curious about. It was not explicitly confirmed during the extended look, nor has Rockstar addressed the question head-on in any of the published interviews available as of this writing. It remains unconfirmed, though it's not looking great.
Kotaku reports that Rob Nelson told YouTuber Davy Jones that "GTA 6" has been running at 30 FPS on console during development. The presentation was believed to be at 30 FPS on a PlayStation 5. It's currently unclear if 60 FPS will be available at launch, but it's not looking promising. PC players are already left wondering whether they need to buy a PS5 or an Xbox, given that the PC launch date hasn't been confirmed yet. Now, players of all sorts need to consider whether they should maximize their setup for 60 FPS, since that may not even be a thing at launch.
The extended look at "GTA 6" essentially ignored the PC release entirely, focusing on showstopping visuals and a story meant to generate positivity rather than deliver any potentially disappointing news. For that same reason, it seems that Rockstar is taking the "if you can't say anything nice, don't say anything at all" approach to 60 FPS, as they don't want to pollute the waters with unnecessary negativity.
GTA 6 will be more like Red Dead Redemption 2 and less like GTA 5
One of the bigger bits of speculation that ran rampant on Reddit in one form or another in the lead-up to the "Grand Theft Auto VI" presentation was that the game would be more like "Red Dead Redemption 2" than it would be "Grand Theft Auto V." This has been fully and completely confirmed by Rockstar. Not just in the presentation, which offered a look at the wanted system in "GTA 6," but also in interviews.
"There is a whole other world in 'Red Dead Redemption 2,' yes. 'GTA 6' is very much like that," Rob Nelson said to IGN, speaking about how there is a rich world to explore well beyond the core game and main campaign. Beyond that, Nelson explained that this is very much a continuation of what they tried to do with "Red Dead 2," only with the benefit of modern technology.
"'GTA 6' is a continuation of our team pushing in this direction — doing everything we possibly can to create the largest, deepest, most densely populated and complex world we have ever built for people to get lost in."
It was also made clear that the wanted system will be much more like "Red Dead 2" than the "Grand Theft Auto" games of yesteryear. In short? Actions have consequences. "There isn't a right or wrong way to play this game, but consistent actions may have an impact in terms of how the world reacts to you and how the narrative plays out," Nelson added to IGN.
Between the way the world is explored, how one develops a reputation, and even some Easter eggs, Rockstar is using "Red Dead Redemption" to help inspire this latest iteration of "GTA."
How Grand Theft Auto VI will impact GTA Online
"GTA Online" is one of the biggest reasons — if not the primary reason — why the 13-year gap between "GTA 5" and "GTA 6" didn't render the franchise irrelevant. The online component helped keep the community thriving despite there being no new story-based offline release in the series for more than a decade.
So, one imagines that online will once again be a major factor as the "Grand Theft Auto VI" era unfolds. The Reddit community was very curious about that, and unfortunately we all must remain curious. Rockstar didn't focus at all on online during the presentation, nor has it been discussed in any of the published interviews, as of this writing.
Rockstar declined to say anything about "GTA 6" online or multiplayer, instead opting to focus on the single-player experience and the base game. There's an argument to be made that not putting the cart before the horse is a good idea. They've got a huge game coming out, and it's worth focusing on the game itself, leaving the online experience reveals for down the road. At the same time, players of "GTA Online," of which there are many, have a rightful curiosity regarding what the future of that experience is going to look like. It will be addressed at some point, just not right now.
"Grand Theft Auto VI" arrives on the PlayStation 5 and the Xbox Series X|S on November 19, 2026.
