Fall Guys Hits A New Milestone

Mediatonic and Devolver Digital's Fall Guys: Ultimate Knockout, 2020's colorful and quirky battle royale platformer, is ending the year with another major sales milestone. The massively multiplayer party game has proven to be incredibly popular since its release in August, as Fall Guys reached 10 million players only one week after its launch, according to Unity Software's 2020 third quarter financial report.

As DSOGaming reported, Mediatonic shared a press release announcing that Fall Guys had sold more than 11 million copies on PC in 2020. Beyond that, the developer reflected on a year filled with "enriching" and "surreal moments."

"Having ESPN create an actual film about TimTheTatMan's journey to his first Fall Guys crown celebrates a bonafide internet sensation," the statement read. "Brands' hunger for appearing in Fall Guys was leveraged with the 'Battle of the Brands', leading to an eye-watering $1 million donation for the wonderful work of Special Effect."

As fans may know, ESPN shared a trailer for the upcoming Fall Guys documentary, Fall Guys: The Saga Continues – A TimTheTatMan Story, back in October. The film follows one of the richest Twitch stars, who had previously succeeded in Fortnite, Overwatch, and Call of Duty, as he struggled to get the hang of Fall Guys. TimTheTatMan was mocked for his failures, even by the official Fall Guys Twitter account, until he finally acquired a crown.

Meanwhile, Fall Guys' Battle of the Brands sparked a bidding war between popular brands, esports teams, and streamers as they tried to win an exclusive in-game skin. In the end, G2 Esports, Ninja, Aim Lab, and MrBeast teamed up to give a $1 million bid. The proceeds were donated to the U.K.-based foundation SpecialEffect, which helps people with physical disabilities play video games.

Fall Guys was already breaking records in its very first month. The PlayStation Europe Twitter account revealed in late August that Fall Guys, a PlayStation Plus subscription title, was the most downloaded PS Plus game of all time on a global scale. Additionally, PC sales were already doing exceptionally well, as Devolver Digital revealed more than 7 million copies sold on Steam in August.

At the moment, Fall Guys is in its second season, with a medieval theme and crossover appearances from the Sonic the Hedgehog and Godzilla franchises. At the time of this writing, there's no word on the start date for Season 3. However, the Fall Guys Twitter account did reveal in late November that the theme would be "Winter Knockout." Not a ton of information is available other than that, but Fall Guys did tease that fans should tune into The Game Awards on Dec. 10 to learn more. Perhaps a trailer for Season 3 is in the very near future.
