Expertise
RPGs, Survival Horror, Narrative-focused Indie Games
  • Cody has been a gamer ever since his parents got him a Sega Genesis for Christmas back in the early 90s, but his love for the medium truly bloomed when he played "Final Fantasy 7" (which is still his favorite game.) He has maintained a love for RPGs and other narrative-focused games ever since.
  • He started out his writing career with some genuinely terrible poetry, but eventually found his calling in prose. His science fiction and fantasy stories have been published in "The North Dakota Quarterly," "Tales" and "The 18th Annual Writer's Digest Short Story Competition Collection" when he was one of their winners. He's currently working on his debut novel.
  • In addition to his work at SVG, Cody also currently leads a prose workshop and teaches a science fiction and fantasy writing course at Linn Benton Community College.

Experience

Cody started out his writing career as a technical writer for a medical company called Prium. He left that job when he went back to college in 2015 and took several classes in creative writing, media writing and journalism. He then transitioned to his work at High Ground Gaming, where he initially wrote feature articles, buying guides, ranked lists and game reviews before shifting his focus to reviewing gaming equipment as the lead tech reviewer. His reviews are published in text on HGG's website, but he also scripts, films and edits each of these reviews in video format for the company's YouTube channel. From there, he was recruited to write for SVG and Looper, where he quickly discovered his passion for deep dives into gaming theory and industry news.

Education

Cody graduated from Sierra College with an AA in English, an AA in Arts and Culture, an AS in Social and Behavioral Sciences and an EMT license. He then went on to earn a BA in English with Writing Minor from Oregon State University.
